Why you should visit the 2017 Madrid Book Fair this year

The end of May is fast approaching… and the Madrid Book Fair is about to begin! This year it will take place from 26 May to 11 June in El Retiro, with neighbouring Portugal as the guest country. A total of 67 stalls and 488 exhibitors – including official bodies, distributors, specialist bookshops, general bookshops, and publishers from Madrid and beyond – will be there waiting for you.

Feria del libro de Madrid

Why should you go to the 76th edition of this fair?

1. Because you’ll get a 10 per cent discount on all your purchases.

2. Because there are over 50 events on offer, covering literature, music and film… for adults and children alike.

3. Because there’s no better plan than this: there’s nothing quite like enjoying a good read surrounded by the authors themselves, in an unbeatable setting, and having your favourite books signed. Check out the signings here.

4. Because Portuguese-speaking writers will be taking part, and there’ll be a film series and concerts. Eduardo Lourenço will deliver the opening speech, and the President of the neighbouring Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will also be attending the event.

5. Because as well as great writers, you’ll also rub shoulders with celebrities such as Pepe, Samantha and Jordi from MasterChef, who’ll be surrounded by contestants and signing books at the fair.

It’s impossible to say no to this annual event, which has been taking place since 1933. Here’s a reminder of how to get there:

Interestingly, this year’s poster was designed by Ena Cardenal de la Nuez and depicts “We are all cats. Cats who read”.
