'An 80-room hotel aimed at a young clientele, with a fun and flexible décor that adapts to guests’ various activities, whilst always maintaining a cheerful and informal atmosphere.'

Many thanks to Casa Viva for publishing the article about our project.

Sleep‘n Atocha is situated very close to Atocha station in Madrid. Las 2 Mercedes, the studio responsible for the interior design project, describe it as “an 80-room hotel aimed at a young clientele, with a fun and flexible décor that adapts to guests’ various activities, whilst always maintaining a cheerful and informal atmosphere”.

SLEEPN ATOCHA

This colourful boho oasis is the result of the renovation of a Madrid hostel opened in 1950, the Hostal Buelta. The architect, Mariana de Delás, set out to reorganise this labyrinthine hostel so that every room would have its own bathroom. She also incorporated a lounge on each floor and designed rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility, adding style, comfort and a fresh feel to the establishment.

Its location is unbeatable, as it lies right in the heart of Madrid’s Art Triangle, and welcomes numerous travellers from around the world. Comfort and modernity, alongside optimising the use of space, were the main objectives set by the team of architects. Hisbalit was commissioned to tile the bathroom areas. The company’s mosaic tiles provide that fresh look and splash of colour that Las 2 Mercedes were seeking.

For the bedrooms, the interior designers sought a modern, simple and neutral design. They have incorporated a splash of colour in the bathroom – which opens onto the bedroom – using Hisbalit’s eco-friendly glass mosaic tiles, which bring the space to life and create a distinctive design. Oak headboards, linoleum flooring, iron interior doors, smart climate control, LED lighting, rain showers and Bluetooth audio systems.

The materials used transform the rooms into clean, airy spaces, characterised by the burst of vibrant colours in the bathrooms.

The hotel’s entrance and reception area have been opened up to the street through large windows. White and wood dominate the space. On one of the walls, a highly original decoration stands out, featuring telephones from the old guesthouse painted white and monkey-shaped lamps in various positions. The ground floor also houses the various communal areas, perfect for relaxing, watching a film or reading a book. It is a versatile, open-plan space, yet clearly divided, as the different areas (reception, bar and relaxation area) are perfectly distinct from one another.
