Popularly known as a bleak and melancholic season, autumn is now upon us, a harbinger of change as well as a catalyst for emotional reflection. This meteorological and spiritual twilight prompts us to take refuge indoors, giving rise to those all-too-familiar scenes: watching the rain, dancing on windowsills; long walks across carpets of withered leaves; witnessing how kingdoms rise and fall.

“AUTUMN” Mario Benedetti

Let us make the most of autumn
before winter sweeps us away
let’s jostle our way into the sun’s rays
and admire the migrating birds

now that it warms the heart
even if only now and then and little by little
let us still think and feel
with the old affection we still have left

let’s make the most of autumn
before the future freezes over
and there’s no room for beauty
because the future turns to frost for us
