Wallpapers for your devices: ATOCHA GARDENS

Starting this month, we’d like to start giving away wallpapers for all your devices – smartphones, laptops, tablets, or whatever else you fancy. These are bespoke designs featuring some of our favourite spots in Madrid that we’d love to share with you. That way, every month you can personalise your devices with fresh, unique designs. At the end of this post, you’ll find the download links for each device.

ATOCHA GARDEN

This month we would like to pay tribute to the Atocha Gardens. Opened in 1992, the Atocha Greenhouse is a botanical garden featuring subtropical and tropical plants, situated at the former halt at Atocha Station in Madrid (Spain). Atocha Station is Madrid’s most important railway station. It was opened in 1851 under the name Estación del Mediodía and was the capital’s first railway station. In 2014, more than 15 million passengers passed through Atocha. It is currently part of the transport hub at the new Atocha Station.

Its 4,000 square metres of green space are home to a total of 7,200 plants representing 260 species native to various regions such as India, Australia, the Americas, Asia and China. The greenhouse is home to plants from tropical and subtropical regions. To accommodate these, the temperature is maintained between 22 and 24 degrees and the humidity between 60 and 70 per cent. The lighting is almost natural, as there is an open glass roof at the top of the old railway halt’s enclosure, and it also receives artificial light designed to simulate solar radiation (using white and yellow lights). One of the distinctive features of the plants on display in this tropical space is that a large proportion of them have been used by humans throughout history for practical purposes.

That is why we present our interpretation of Atocha Garden
